A Kenmore washer in Winnipeg was leaking water onto the floor shortly after starting. During diagnosis, Appliance Fix Lab found a torn internal fill hose connecting the water inlet valve to the tub.

The damaged hose was replaced after the customer approved the repair price. A wash-cycle test and checks of the main operating modes confirmed that the washer was working correctly with no leaks.

Finding the source of the leak

This washer was part of a Kenmore laundry centre. To inspect it, we removed the front panel and the top panel with the washer lid.

A visual inspection revealed a tear near the end of the internal fill hose. This hose carries water from the inlet valve into the tub. The opening allowed water to escape inside the cabinet during filling.

The close-up photo shows the actual damage found during the inspection.

We explained the diagnosis and provided a repair price covering labour and the replacement part. Once the customer approved it, we replaced the damaged hose with a new one.

After replacement, we started a wash cycle and checked the main operating modes. No further leaking was observed, and the washer operated correctly during testing.

What to do if your washer leaks after starting

Stop the cycle and avoid using the washer until the leak has been assessed. If the water shut-off valves are safely accessible, turn them off. Avoid touching electrical plugs or equipment in a wet area.

Note when the water appears: during filling, washing, or draining. Similar symptoms can have different causes, so inspection is needed before deciding which part to replace.
